Today in class we watched a special Frontline did on journalism and how it is changing in todays society.
The first segment we watched focused on the concept of "snacking" and on how the news is not so hard news line driven. I would have to agree with the statements that were made in this segment. Due to an aging viewing group and the multiple mediums to get your news, news channels are having to compete with each other. This is why we are seeing more and more news channels focus on celebrity news. It helps them compete with each other and also it attracts the younger crowd. However, I still see people in the age group of 20 to 30 wanting to use the Internet and perform snacking. You get the information you want and that is it. In today's society we are so faced paced and feel we don't have time to sit down and watch a news broadcast.
One way people are jumping on this new technology bandwagon is a group called Rocketboom. They are an online news broadcasting group; however they do not view themselves as journalists and are not trained in the area. I personally would not go to them for information due to credibility issues. However, I do think they are taking the concept to the next level.
On the other hand news stations such as ABC and CBS are also grabbing on to the concept such as Rocketboom by making their own webisodes of newscasts. Even with me being in the age range of 20 to 30 I would rather watch these due to credibility. I know that at this source they know what they are talking about, and they are going to pick the important news, for the most part.
All in all, I agree that classic journalism is decaying and in order to stay in the business organizations are going to have to make the conversion.

Genre-specfic blogs
When looking for a blog I had to do a Google search since I had never "blogged" before. Being someone who enjoys everything about the world of entertainment I went down that route and found PR-Inside.com Entertainment News.
At first glance this looked like a very user friendly blog especially to someone who had never been on one before. When looking more into it I do agree with this I liked how the page was simple, and the main stories were right in front of you. Also on the side bars they had archived the other entries. Also had links to other sites. I also really liked how when you clicked on the story you wanted to read at the bottom there were links to related stories.
The weaker parts of this blog were the links mentioned above were only links to more entires on this blog. Also I am not sure who is writing these blogs if it is only the one guy, or if others are contributing. Third, I am not sure how popular this site truly is due to the fact from what I have seen there have been no comments made and it appears that anyone can comment.
